A woman died while her son sustained severe injuries after a speeding SUV rammed into the right side of the car they were travelling in at the Mandi Board light point in Phase 11 on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Lakshmi Devi and her son Pardeep (30) were residents of Zirakpur. Devi was driving the car. The victims were travelling to Zirakpur from a hospital in Sector 69, where Devi’s husband Jagdish was admitted.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where Devi was declared brought dead, while her son was referred to the PGIMER, Chandigarh. Doctors said Devi succumbed to head injuries.
The driver, meanwhile, managed to flee. A case of death due to negligence and rash driving was registered against the unidentified driver of the SUV.
Police said investigations revealed that the car involved in the accident is a white Fortuner SUV.
