With an objective to prepare more postgraduate students and to increase research and development in collaboration with industry, World Bank plans to invest $500 million under phase-2 of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of Government of India.
A World Bank expert Kurt Larsen made this observation on Tuesday while addressing the participating members in the north region progress review held at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran.
Six institutes from Punjab, two from Chandigarh and one from Himachal Pradesh took part in the review meeting and presented details on funds allocation, expenses and challenges being faced to the senior officials from World Bank and Government of India.
The participating colleges include CEC, Landran; PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh; NIT, Kurukshetra; Thapar University, Patiala and UIET, Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Mohanbir Singh Sidhu, additional director-cum-state project coordinator, said TEQIP aims to upscale and support ongoing efforts of GOI to improve quality of technical education and improve existing capabilities of the institutions.
Under the scheme CGC Landran had got a grant of Rs 4 crores. Speaking on the occasion, Satnam Singh Sandhu, chairman, CGC and chancellor, Chandigarh University said, “This support will further enhance our efforts towards increasing Industry Academia Interface, R&D based projects, Postgraduate pass outs, thereby raising the level of technical education in the state.”
