“This policeman was assigned to serve during the Karnataka Assembly Election 2023. He received the devastating news of his mother's demise while on duty today morning. But he refused to take a leave of absence, valuing his sense of duty over his personal grief. Hats off,” P C Mohan wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Praveen Sood, DGP Karnataka, also posted a message that he was proud of the man, tweeting, “His mother passed away while he was deputed for election duty. He was asked to proceed on leave but he refused to go. Duty first. Proud of you.”

Sood also shared a video of the policeman being felicitated by his colleagues.

Karnataka is voting today, and results of the assembly election will be announced three days later, on Saturday.
