Bathinda advocate held under Official Secrets Act

The district police on Wednesday arrested a city-based advocate, Sandeep Pathak, and booked unidentified police personnel for alleged violation of the Official Secrets Act and other offences.

A case was registered at the Civil Lines police station under Section 316 (criminal breach of trust) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sahinta, the Official Secrets Act, and Section 72 (breach of confidentiality and privacy) of the Information Technology Act.

Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Arun Mundan said the case pertains to the alleged possession and illegal circulation of a confidential Punjab Police document. Police authorities, however, refrained from disclosing further details regarding the nature of the document or how it was shared.

The DSP said the accused will be produced in court tomorrow. “Investigation has started to identify the police personnel involved in the violation,” the DSP added.
