Police said the accused has more than 22 criminal cases registered against him, including robbery, snatching, theft, assault, attempt to murder and Arms Act offences.

According to the police, Irfan was arrested on July 4 following a tip-off, leading to the recovery of a country-made pistol (desi katta) and one live cartridge. A case under the Arms Act was registered at Sector 31 police station.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that he had concealed another 9mm pistol, along with a magazine and five live cartridges, beneath stones in Colony No. 4. The weapon and ammunition were subsequently recovered by the police.

Police claimed that both firearms had been procured from Rinku alias Pak-Pak, a resident of Maloya Colony, who remains absconding. Investigators also alleged that the recovered 9mm pistol was stolen from a house in Sector 21A and belonged to the service revolver of a Punjab Police official deployed with a retired district and sessions judge. A separate FIR regarding the theft had already been registered at Sector 19 police station in December 2025.
