Cop assaulted in Khanna, woman among four held

The ASI conducted a raid at their home for recovery of aluminum angles from the electricity tower, which the police alleged they had stolen.

The ASI suffered injuries in the assault and his turban was also tossed in the air by the accused.

The Khanna police lodged an FIR against the accused and arrested them. The accused have been identified as Karam Singh of Mandiala village, his sons Hardeep Singh, Daljit Singh Babbu and his daughter Sukhwinder Kaur.

Balbir Singh of Mandiali village informed the police that he had seen the accused stealing aluminum angles from an electricity tower supplying power to a locked factory.

Following the information, ASI Jagdeep Singh, incharge at police post Kot along with other police personnel conducted a raid at the house.

The DSP added that the other police personnel rescued the ASI and rushed him to hospital.

The Sadar police station of Khanna lodged an FIR against the accused under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. The police arrested the accused minutes after the incident.
