The court of additional sessions judge Jaibir Singh also imposed a fine of 25,000 on Sunny, who was held guilty under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Sunny was initially booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC on the complaint of the woman’s father, Ram Lal.

The complainant stated that his daughter had married Sunny on October 30, 2019. On March 7, 2021, he received a call from Sunny’s father that his daughter got injured during a fight with her husband.

Ram Lal said when he reached the hospital where his daughter was taken, she revealed that Sunny stabbed her in the stomach. His daughter had eventually succumbed to the injuries.

The defence counsel argued that there was no motive for Sunny to kill his wife.

After hearing the arguments, the court held Sunny guilty for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced him to seven years in jail.
