Foreign trade official caught taking ₹30k bribe in Panipat

According to the CBI, a case was registered case against the accused on August 19 following a complaint alleging that the ADGFT had demanded ₹30,000 for clearing deficiencies and processing the EPCG authorisation file pertaining to the complainant’s client

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested an assistant director general of foreign trade (ADGFT) in Panipat district for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹30,000 bribe from a complainant in connection with the processing of an Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) authorisation file.

According to the CBI, a case was registered case against the accused on August 19 following a complaint alleging that the ADGFT, posted at the office of the joint director general of foreign trade (JDGFT), Panipat, had demanded ₹30,000 for clearing deficiencies and processing the EPCG authorisation file pertaining to the complainant’s client.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap in Panipat on Wednesday and allegedly caught the public servant while demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹30,000 from the complainant.

Following the arrest, CBI launched searches at the accused officer’s residential and office premises. The searches were underway at the time of filing this report. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the designated CBI court at Panchkula.
