Hisar police on Friday rejected the social media posts claiming responsibility for the daylight murder of gangster Vinod Panu alias Kana outside the district court complex on Thursday.

In an official statement, the police said that some antisocial elements are claiming responsibility for this incident on social media. Hisar Police unequivocally states that such claims are completely false and baseless.
“Such farce claims tantamount to spreading fake news and glorifying gangsters/gang culture, which is also a violation of the resolution passed by the Haryana assembly.”, reads the statement issued under the supervision of Hisar SP Siddhant Jain. However the police have sent the arrested accused Rakesh on three day police remand for further interrogation.
On Thursday afternoon, two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire near the court parking area shortly after Panu, who faced 31 criminal cases including murder, was acquitted in a 2021 attempt-to-murder case. Around 14 rounds were fired. Panu died of his injuries, while two of his associates were wounded. One of the attackers was overpowered and arrested at the spot.
Following the incident, a social media post allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, attributed to Himanshu Sonipat and naming Anil Pandit and others, went viral claiming responsibility for the killing. The post also contained threats.
Police have formed six investigation teams, examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence and ballistic reports. They reiterated that unverified social media claims should not be amplified by the media.
