Man posing as Ludhiana MP’s personal assistant cheats city resident of ₹ 2.5 lakh
The suspect duped the victim on the pretext of securing a job for him in the building branch of Ludhiana municipal corporation
A man has booked for posing as personal assistant to Congress member of Parliament (MP) from Ludhiana, Ravneet Singh Bittu, and duping a Tibba Road resident of ₹ 2.5 lakh on the pretext of helping him secure a job in the local municipal corporation.
The accused has been identified as Sandeep Sharma of Dhamotia Colony, Tibba Road.
The complainant, Kamal Kishore, 30, who lives in the same area as Sharma, stated that he works in the marketing department of a private firm and knew the accused through his father.
He told police that the accused had taken ₹2.5 lakh from him in 2020 on the pretext of getting him a job in MC’s building branch.
The complainant stated that despite financial problems due to the Covid lockdown, he had arranged for the cash and Sharma promised to get him the job by June 2020.
However, Sharma neither kept his promise, nor returned the money and also stopped taking Kamal’s calls.
The complainant further alleged that the accused had installed a plate of the Congress party on his car and claimed that he had helped many people secure jobs in the police department.
ASI Balwinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said the complaint was filed in September 2020 and they have lodged an FIR under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code at Tibba police station. A hunt is on for the arrest of the accused.
Police confirmed that the accused is not Bittu’s PA, but it is yet to be ascertained whether he is a member of the Congress.
Woman arrested for duping bakery owner, aide on run
A woman has been arrested for duping a bakery owner of ₹19,500 by posing as an employee of the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department.
The arrested accused has been identified as Kajal, while her unidentified aide is on the run.
The victim has been identified as Nishan Singh of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, Dugri Phase-2 who owns a bakery in Dugri area.
Nishan stated that on September 6, he received a call from an unknown number from a man who introduced himself as Harpreet Singh, a food inspector. The caller said he has received a complaint that Nishan has not completed the medical examination of his employees and water samples from his bakery have failed a quality test. He then asked Nishan to transfer ₹19,500 as a fine.
The caller made him talk to a woman, who shared a QR code, through which he transferred the money.
The next day, the man posing as Harpreet called him again and asked him for more money to get his bakery’s licence renewed. Nishan suspected that he had been duped and lodged a complaint with the police.
Sub inspector Gagandeep Singh, station house officer at Dugri police station, said that police have lodged an FIR under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of Information and Technology Act against two suspects.
