Mohali: Cross-border weapon, drug nexus busted after gangsters’ arrest

Investigations revealed that Ludhiana-based gangster Lovish Grover allegedly procured arms and drugs from Pakistan through Amritsar, said Mohali police

Days after Zirakpur police nabbed Ludhiana-based gangster Lovish Grover, alias Lovi, and his accomplice Gurpreet Singh, the police have uncovered a cross-border arms and drug smuggling nexus. Investigations reveal that Grover allegedly procured arms and drugs from Pakistan through Amritsar.

A police team led by station house officer (SHO) Jaskanwal Singh Sekhon apprehended Grover at Flat 12C, Shiva Enclave, Singhpura, after a brief encounter on March 21. When police knocked on his door, Grover fired three rounds from his pistol. In retaliatory firing, he sustained a leg injury before being taken into custody.

The police recovered a .30mm pistol with four live cartridges, a Glock 9 mm pistol with two live cartridges, and a 12-bore double-barrel gun with 16 live cartridges. Authorities also seized three vehicles—an Audi (CH01-AQ-1200), a Mercedes (DL-3CBU-2828), and a Peugeot (UP16-AB-0890). Additionally, 400 grams of opium and ₹2.5 lakh in drug money were found at his flat.

“During interrogation, Grover, who has over 10 criminal cases, confessed to supplying drugs and weapons to Gurpreet Singh of Sangrur. Acting on a tip-off, police raided his flat at Orbit Apartment, VIP Road, Zirakpur, seizing 800 grams of opium and a .32 bore pistol with 12 live cartridges,” Mohali senior superintendent of police Deepak Pareek said.
