A 22-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and molested inside a commercial complex of a private housing society in Zirakpur after she rejected a man’s proposal for a relationship.
The woman, who works as a social media manager in the commercial complex, told police that the accused, a 28-year-old man from Baltana who also works in the same building, had been harassing her from different phone numbers after she blocked him. On Friday evening, he confronted her at the complex, slapped her and physically assaulted her inside an elevator. He allegedly snatched her mobile phone and punched her when she tried to take it back, leaving her lower lip bleeding. The friend of the victim took her to the nearby hospital.
Police have booked the accused under BNS Sections 74, 75(2), 115(2) and 296. The woman was first taken to Civil Hospital, Dhakoli, and later shifted to GMCH-32 for further examination. Police said further investigation is underway and the accused will be arrested soon.
