In the second road rage incident in the district in less than a fortnight, a PRTC bus driver allegedly attacked a couple with an iron rod after they questioned him for dangerously overtaking their car, leaving the woman with a fractured arm, in Zirakpur.
Earlier on August 11, an SUV driver had allegedly assaulted a chemist, his wife and an employee near Bhuru Chowk in Kharar after being confronted over dangerous driving.
The latest incident took place near Patiala Chowk on August 21, when the couple was travelling from Chandigarh to Bathinda. The complainant, Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Sector 29, Chandigarh, said he was driving his Mahindra XUV300 with his wife in the passenger seat, when a PRTC bus, bearing registration number, PB11CZ8368 allegedly overtook their car from the left near Kalka Chowk and forced him towards the divider.
Paramjeet told the police that he noticed the bus driver talking on a mobile phone while driving. When the bus stopped at the Patiala Chowk traffic light, he got out of his car and questioned the driver about his driving.
According to the complaint, the driver abused the man, pushed him and attacked him with an iron rod kept inside the bus. The complainant said the driver attacked him on the right shoulder. When he tried to strike again, the complainant managed to grab the other end of the rod. During the scuffle, the complainant’s turban was also tossed in the air.

{{/usCountry}}When the complainant’s wife stepped out of the car to intervene, the driver allegedly struck her on the right shoulder and arm with the rod. The couple raised the alarm, following which passersby intervened. Seeing the crowd gathering, the driver allegedly drove away.
The couple initially went to the Dera Bassi civil hospital and later to Dhakoli civil hospital, where doctors referred the woman to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Medical examination revealed she had suffered a fracture in her right arm.
Assistant sub-inspector Parampreet Singh said a case under Sections 115(2)/117(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Efforts are on to trace the PRTC driver, who remains unidentified in the FIR.
