A shopkeeper has been sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl.
The incident took place in 2023, when a 12-year-old victim went to pick up goods in a shop near her house. A man working there forcibly dragged the girl inside the shop and sexually harassed her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The girl came home crying and told her parents. On the complaint of the father, a case was registered. and the accused was arrested within two days.
He has been sentenced under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. along with a fine of ₹10,000. In addition to this, the accused has been sentenced to one year RI with a fine of ₹3,000 under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Both sentences will run concurrently.
