Panjab University, 6 city schools, police stations get fresh bomb threats

As the threats were received early in the morning, security personnel were able to carry out the searches before the establishments opened for the day

Amid heightened security ahead of Independence Day, six city schools, Panjab University (PU) and multiple police stations received fresh bomb threats on Tuesday.

As the threats were received early in the morning, security personnel were able to carry out the searches before the establishments opened for the day. Nothing suspicious was found at any of the campuses, authorities confirmed.

According to information, the email, from persons claiming to be part of the Khalistan National Army, asked people not to send their children to schools for the I-Day celebrations on Saturday.

Among the schools that received the threats were Carmel Convent, Sector 9, St Johns High School, Sector 26, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, Bhavan Vidyalaya School, Sector 27, Vivek High School, Sector 38, and St Stephens School, Sector 45.

The email also mentioned that PU, the vice-chancellor’s office, Student Centre and Gandhi Bhawan will also be targeted, and grenade attacks will be carried out at various police stations of the city.
