The car occupant had a close shave in the accident, which left the vehicle completely mangled. The truck driver, meanwhile, also sustained injuries in the mishap.

In a bizarre turn of event, however, passers-by rushed to steal the supplies — the rice bags — from the ill-fated truck shortly after the incident.

Truck driver, who was identified as Anees, said he had loaded the bags of rice from Amritsar and was heading towards Allahabad to deliver the same. Upon reaching the Sherpur Chowk, however, he lost control of the vehicle and hit a Maruti Suzuki Brezza car before going off the subsequent flyover.

The driver of the car, Vikas, however, said the accident took place while the truck was trying to overtake his car adding that the injuries would have been much worse had the supplies been different. He also alleged that the truck driver was in an inebriated state at the time of the mishap.

Flow of traffic on the stretch remained affected till Sunday afternoon as police and the authorities continued their efforts to remove the vehicles involved in the accident from the road.

Giving out details, the ASI said the teams had to toil hard to clear the passage as the front half of the truck had gone off the flyover and was left hanging.
