Police’s anti-narcotics on Wednesday arrested two alleged drug peddlers after recovering 265 gm heroin from their possession.
The accused have been identified as 22-year-old Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha of Sultanpur Lodhi and 25-year-old Gurcharan Singh alias Jeeta of Chaunta village in Ludhiana. They are both cousins.
The duo were stopped for checking near Chaunta village near Koom Kalan. After frisking them, police teams recovered 200 gm heroin from Lakhwinder and 65 gm from Gurcharan. The bike they used for peddling has also been impounded.
Sharing further details, additional deputy commissioner police (ADCP, investigation) Rupinder Kaur Sran said both the accused worked as farm labourers and would sell drugs to make easy money. The accused said they procured the heroin from near the India-Pakistan border. “Police are still verifying the information,” she added.
A case under section 21B-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them at the Koomkalan police station.
Police said Lakhwinder already has a drugs-related case registered against him and was out on bail.
The accused were produced in the court on Wednesday and were sent to a one-day police remand.
