PUNSUP food inspector sacked for embezzling 20,294 wheat bags

PUNSUP food inspector Gurinder Singh was on Thursday dismissed for allegedly embezzling 20,294 wheat bags and other stocks worth ₹ 3 crore.
The food agency’s managing director Amrit Kaur Gill took action against Gurinder, who was posted at Patiala-l centre in Patiala district, according to an official release.
The shortage of wheat bags came to the notice at the time of physical verification conducted by a special team of officers, comprising PUNSUP district manager (Moga) Anant Sharma, district Manager (Sangrur) Gaurav Ahluwalia and field officer (Moga) Avinash Goel, it said.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the erring officer and FIR was filed on August 17 at police station Sadar, Patiala. After the irregularity came to the notice of the physical verification team, on enquiry, the Inspector incharge, who had proceeded on LTC leave, did not come back to join the service, it said.
