A three-year-old boy died while his mother and two sisters remain in critical condition after allegedly consuming poison in a locality in Kharkhoda of Sonepat district, police said on Wednesday.

Police said the woman allegedly gave a poisonous substance to her 13-year-old and 7-year-old daughters and her three-year-old son before consuming it herself. All four were rushed to a local hospital, where the boy was declared dead. The woman and her two daughters were referred to a hospital in Delhi.
According to police, the 32-years-old woman had earlier accused a man from her family of harassment and intimidation. In her complaint, she alleged that the accused had been threatening her and her children for some time. Police said a case had already been registered against the accused based on her complaint.
Family members told investigators that the woman had been under severe mental stress in recent months. Her husband informed police that she had also been facing mental health issues.
Police have registered a separate case in connection with the poisoning incident and said investigations are underway from all possible angles. Authorities are probing both the alleged harassment complaint and the circumstances that led to the incident.
