Group assisting gangsters: 2 held, 6 booked for fake documentation of passports and visas
State Special Operation Cell has arrested two persons and booked six others and claimed to have busted a network involved in preparing fake documentation for passport and visa processes to assist criminals and other members of gangs to flee abroad.
State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) has arrested two persons and booked six others and claimed to have busted a network involved in preparing fake documentation for passport and visa processes to assist criminals and other members of gangs to flee abroad.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Malkeet Singh alias Peeta aka Pistol, a resident of Bhagtana Borawala village in Dera Baba Nanak town and Mohit alias Ricky of Jattuwal village in district Gurdaspur.
The two were apprehended by the police in an operation carried out by SSOC SAS Nagar to break nexus of gangs and travel agents who are assisting the criminals to flee abroad to escape rule of law.
Malkeet Singh and Mohit along with their accomplices Gurjant Singh aka Bholu, Rashpal Singh aka Dana both from Tarn Taran, Jaswinder Singh alias Khatu of Ludhiana, Lovepreet Singh alias Navi of Gurdaspur, Gurpreet Singh Birowal Nawanshahr ,Sukhpreet Singh aka Lovely of Gurdaspur have been booked under Section 467,468,471, 120-B Indian Penal Code, 25 , 25 (7) Arms Act, 12 Passport Act. The investigating officer said that some of the accused nominated in the case have managed to flee or are in the process of fleeing the country.
According to the investigating official, Malkeet Singh and Mohit were actively involved in carrying out criminal activities on the direction of their gang leaders, Taranjot Singh Tanna and Gurjeet Singh Bhaa.
Tanna and Bhaa were also bought on production warrant to Rohini jail in Delhi a few days ago in this connection to dig out more information about the module of the gang. Further investigation has indicated that the gang members have been involved in cross border smuggling activities related to drugs and militant hardware.
SSOC has recovered a glock pistol and heroin from the two accused members. Earlier also a Glock pistol was recoverd from a member of this module by SSOC. The seizure of the firearm and drugs further establishes their involvement in serious criminal activities, stated the officer privy with the investigation of the case.
Bha was among the two main shooters, who had allegedly killed Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Sandhu in Bhikhwind village of Tarn Taran in 2020.
Earlier in January, the SSOC of the Punjab Police had booked nine persons, including Pakistan-based International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) chief Lakhbir Singh Rode, for smuggling arms, ammunition, drugs and explosives using drones from across the border.
