Two persons have been arrested on charges of attacking the son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ward no 21 councillor Anita Nanchahal and his aide after an altercation following a road rage incident near Vishwanath Mandir on Metro Road on Tuesday night, police said.

The accused were identified as Gurjit Singh of Bhaini Sahib and his son Ganga Singh. Two other persons accompanying them fled the spot and are yet to be identified. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area, police said.

According to the FIR registered on the complaint of Pankaj Govind of Bhamian Khurd, he was riding towards Metro Road from Jamalpur when a white car suddenly stopped and one of its occupants opened the door, causing his motorcycle to collide with it. Govind, who suffered injuries in the collision, confronted the occupants, leading to an altercation.

Karan reached the spot and intervened, following which the accused allegedly assaulted him. His aide, Pinku Sharma, husband of BJP’s councillor Shobha Sharma from ward no 23, was also attacked when he came to Nanchahal’s aid. No one was seriously injured in the clash.

ASI Gurmukh Singh, the investigating officer, said, “The Moti Nagar police have registered a case under Sections 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing simple hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 109 (attempt to murder) and 3 (5) (common intention) of the BNS against the accused. The car allegedly involved in the incident has been recovered. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining accused.”
