Around 60% of the work on the skywalk and foot overbridge (FOB) at Madhuban Chowk is complete, with officials saying the structures will be fully ready by November 30, 2026.

The 9.62 crore project, being developed by the Public Works Department (PWD) along the outer ring road, aims to provide a safe, grade-separated pedestrian link between Pitampura Metro Station, Madhuban Chowk Metro Station and Rohini District Court, officials said.

Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said the project would enhance safety and ease movement for pedestrians.

“The Madhuban Chowk Skywalk is an important step towards safer pedestrian movement, better metro connectivity and stronger last-mile connectivity. Once completed, it will make the metro stations and Rohini District Court more convenient and also help ensure smoother traffic flow on the Outer Ring Road,” she said.

Officials said the dedicated route is expected to reduce pedestrian-vehicle conflicts and improve traffic movement at the busy intersection.

Sarika Panda Bhatt, founder and trustee of Raahgiri Foundation said, “Globally, FOBs have proven to be successful. They are not merely FOBs but public spaces with a garden, small kiosks and eateries. But in cities like Delhi and Gurugram, FOBs are seen lying defunct. Sometimes, the lifts or escalators are not functional or there are infrastructure issues. Planning is one thing but maintaining FOBs and ensuring that they are safe spaces is another key factor. If the government properly designs the FOB, it should serve its purpose,” Bhatt added.

Officials said the structure is expected to improve connectivity, strengthen last-mile access to public transport, and encourage greater use of the metro for travel to the court and nearby areas.
