Advisory issued ahead of I-Day full dress rehearsal in Central Delhi

Traffic Police on Tuesday issued an advisory regarding restrictions and diversion around Red Fort and central Delhi areas for a full-dress rehearsal on Thursday for Independence Day celebrations.

According to the advisory, Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail Chowk, SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort, Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, and Ring Road from Rajghat to Kashmere Gate interstate bus terminal (ISBT) will be closed for general traffic from 4am to 10am on August 13 (Thursday). Only vehicles with permission and valid parking labels will be permitted on the seven stretches.

“During that period, vehicles without authorised parking labels for the rehearsal may avoid C- Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J.L. Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate & Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh bypass,” said deputy commissioner of police (central range traffic) Nishant Gupta.

For motorists travelling between north and south Delhi areas, the traffic police have suggested three alternate routes passing through Aurobindo Marg – Safdarjung Road – Kamal Ataturk Marg- Kautilya Marg- S Marg- 11 Murti- Mother Teresa Crescent- Park Street– Mandir Marg – Panchkuian Road – Rani Jhansi Road and vice-versa. The other route will be through Connaught Place – Minto Road – Bhavbhuti Marg – Ajmeri Gate –Shradhanand Marg – Lahori Gate Chowk – Naya Bazar – Peeli Kothi – S.P. Mukherjee Marg up to Old Delhi railway station and vice versa. The motorists can also use Nizamuddin Bridge to cross Yamuna – Pushta Road – G.T. Road and cross Yudhister Setu to ISBT and travel between south and north Delhi.

The Vikas Marg- IP Marg- DDU Marg- Minto Road then either via Connaught Place or Ajmeri Gate- DBG Road and the Pusta Road (Shastri Park)- GT Road- Yudhister Setu- ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Ring Road or Rani Jhansi Road are the other two alternate routes.

“The Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed. Adequate informative signages will be displayed for the guidance of vehicular traffic destined for the Red Fort at all important traffic junctions. There will be restrictions on movement of commercial transport and interstate buses from the midnight of August 12 to 11am on August 13,” added DCP Gupta.
