New Delhi: Highly decomposed remains of a human body, with its head and torso missing, were on Sunday found wrapped in three plastic bags left in an open field near Kalyanpuri in east Delhi, behind the recently inaugurated cyber police station.

Police said the parts were in such a state that it was impossible to ascertain the gender. They have been recovered and preserved at the mortuary of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for identification and autopsy. Several teams have been formed to recover the remaining body parts, identify the deceased, and nab the killer, the police said.

Deputy police commissioner Priyanka Kashyap said a police team out on patrolling noticed a foul smell from the bushes near the cyber police station and immediately informed the Pandav Nagar police station. The station house officer along with inspector (investigation) led a team to the scene and found a human leg wrapped in a plastic bag, while a plastic sack lay nearby. The sack was cut open to reveal two plastic bags containing more body parts, police said.

He said prima facie, it appears that the murder took place elsewhere and the remains were transported there. The parts below the waist were stuffed into the bags and dumped in bushes. The head and the upper torso may have been thrown elsewhere to avoid identification, police said, adding that all areas in the vicinity of where the bags were found were searched but nothing else could be found.

“The investigating team is compiling a list of persons who were reported missing in Delhi-NCR in the past 10 days or so. The autopsy may help investigators in identifying the gender of the deceased. Further probe is on,” the officer said.

In another case, the body of a 17-year-old boy was found in a lane next to Anand Parbat police station in central Delhi on Monday morning. Police said the teenager was assaulted and stabbed by a group of three to four persons allegedly over a personal enmity late Sunday night. A case of murder was registered and two suspects were detained for questioning after the police examined the footage of CCTV cameras from near the crime scene.

“The suspects are being interrogated and may be arrested once their involvement in the murder is established and evidence against them is collected,” said deputy commissioner of police (central) Shweta Chauhan.
