A 36-year-old man died and five others were critically injured after the Mahindra Scorpio they were travelling in rammed a roadside tree on the Atali-Korali road in Faridabad on Tuesday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Manish Kumar, 36, a resident of Kheri Kalan. Police said he was seated in the middle row and suffered a fractured neck in the collision, resulting in his death.
The injured were identified as Om Prakash, 35, of Kherki Kalan; Rinku Kumar, 38, and Yogesh Kumar, 37, of Bharat Colony; Sunil, 37, of Mahavatpur; and Ombir, 24, of Korali, all in Faridabad. They were taken to a private hospital in Faridabad and were in critical condition, police said.
The accident took place at 4.35pm under the jurisdiction of the Tigaon police station when the six were travelling towards Korali, investigators said. It was yet to be established who was driving the Scorpio, which belonged to a backward cell’s district president of a political party.
Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad police, said preliminary investigation suggested the vehicle was speeding and its driver had tried to avoid another vehicle.

{{/usCountry}}“As per eyewitnesses, they heard the driver honking repeatedly before the vehicle veered off course and rammed the roadside tree,” he said.
Yadav said commuters pulled all six passengers from the wreckage and alerted the police control room before helping take them to hospital.
“Manish was declared dead on arrival by the doctor. Police are yet to receive any complaint from the deceased’s family. All the injured victims are unconscious at present. Only after the doctor’s clearance will police record their statement for any further action in the case,” he said.
