The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has decided to construct a fire station in Sector 92 and earmarked a 2.5-acre land for its construction, said officials on Saturday adding that the fire station will be ready by 2023.

The fire station closest to Sector 92 is at least seven kilometres away, one at Sector 37 in Gurugram and the other at IMT Manesar. Due to severe traffic congestion at places, such as the Kherki Daula toll plaza and NH-48, fire tenders often reach a spot nearly 35-40 minutes after receiving information.

According to officials from the fire department, the response time in urban areas should be maximum 15 minutes.

MCM officials said during the ninth authority meeting of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), a proposal to transfer land to the civic body for constructing a fire station at Sector 92 was floated, which was subsequently approved by the authority.

During a GMDA meeting in April last year, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is also the chairperson of the authority, approved the land allocation for the fire station in Manesar.

“Work on preparing designs and estimates for the fire station is underway. We are aiming to start construction by the end of this year and finish the project in six months thereafter,” said a senior MCM official privy to the matter.

The Sector 92 fire station is part of the state fire department’s bigger objective of covering more areas falling between Gurugram and Rewari. The fire department also has plans of constructing fire stations at Pataudi and Hailey Mandi.

Currently, the fire stations at IMT Manesar and Sector 37 have only four fire tenders each. Incase of a major fire, at least a dozen fire tenders are required, said officials.

“We have started taking preparations for the fire station that will be coming up at Sector 92. A file has been sent to the Haryana government for recruiting staff for the fire station as well as providing new fire tenders. The process is underway,” said Gulshan Kalra, deputy director of Haryana Fire Services.
