Fake hospital website created for soliciting kidney sellers, cops file case

Police in Gurugram have booked an unknown suspect for creating a fake website for Max Healthcare and illegally posting ads soliciting kidney sellers online. Max Healthcare has lodged a police complaint and a case has been registered under section 66 C of the Information Technology Act.

Gurugram: Police on Thursday booked an unknown suspect for allegedly creating a fake website of Max Healthcare Institute Ltd and posting illegal advertisements in its name, soliciting kidney sellers online, Gurugram police said on Friday.

According to police, they received a complaint on Thursday against the suspects trying to trick people with fake advertisements by creating a fake website of the hospital chain.

Max Healthcare lodged a police complaint stating that it came to know about the fake website a few days ago. “The website, which solicits people to contact them if they want to sell a kidney, also shows up when searched on Google,” a spokesperson of the healthcare chain said.

The complaint further said that illegally using the name of the hospital chain will have widespread repercussions and serious illegalities have been committed.

Police said a case under section66 C of the Information Technology (IT) Act was registered at the Cyber Crime (south) police station on Thursday.

“We came to know about an online fraud being perpetrated in the name of Max Healthcare and a well-known clinician. We have brought this to the attention of the police and have requested them to investigate and apprehend the culprits,” said the spokesperson.

Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said they have registered a case and teams have been formed to nab the suspects. “The fake website was created last month, and the suspects will be arrested soon,” he said.
