Alert sounded in Delhi over possible terror strikes

A senior special cell officer, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the city police’s anti-terrorist squad recently received an alert from the central agencies.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday sounded an alert after central intelligence agencies sent information that some Kashmiri insurgents had reached the city to carry out terror strikes during the festival season.

A senior special cell officer, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the city police’s anti-terrorist squad recently received an alert from the central agencies.

Thereafter, the deputy commissioners of police (DCP) of all 15 districts were directed to heighten security at vital installations and ensure maximum mobility of police personnel on streets to avoid any such terror strikes.

“Apart from mobilisation of the force, anti-terrorist measures at railway stations, metro stations and places having high footfall such as markets and malls had been intensified. Footage of CCTV cameras installed at these places were being regularly examined to monitor suspicious activities,” said the officer cited above.

Police said that they were checking guest houses, hotels and paying guest accommodations to find suspects. Tenants and employees who recently came to the city were also being verified.
