Three women die as soil caves in at Jaipur construction site: Police

Three women labourers were killed on Thursday after a mound of soil collapsed on them during basement excavation work at an under-construction building on Jaipur’s Gandhi Path, police said.

Labourers and local residents pulled the three women out from under the rubble and rushed them to SMS Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Officers said the incident occurred around 4 pm when basement excavation work was underway at an under-construction building in the Karni Vihar area. During the digging process, a large portion of soil suddenly collapsed, trapping three women labourers working at the site.

Labourers and local residents pulled the three women out from under the rubble and rushed them to SMS Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Police identified the deceased as Sunita Devi (29), Anti Kumari (18) and Pratibha Kumari (21).

Police officers said they are examining whether safety norms were followed during the construction work. Investigators are also questioning those associated with the project to determine the exact cause of the collapse.

Karni Vihar Station House Officer (SHO) Hawa Singh said the matter is being investigated and all aspects related to safety compliance and the circumstances leading to the accident are under scrutiny.
