The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) administration has widened its investigation into the alleged drug procurement scam detected in the urology department, undertaking an audit of treatment, medicine procurement, supply and payment records across seven cancer care departments.
The departments under investigation include radiotherapy, surgical oncology, urology, obstetrics and gynaecology, gynaecologic oncology, medical oncology and endocrine surgery.
The inquiry began on Thursday with the radiotherapy department, with the five-member committee constituted by the medical university seeking records related to drug orders, bills, vouchers, stock registers and distribution of cancer medicines. Medical records from the past two to three months are being scrutinised, officials said.
The panel is also examining details of patients who received expensive cancer drugs and injections, along with their UHID numbers, Aadhaar details and mobile numbers, to verify whether records were maintained as per prescribed protocols.
KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said the objective of the inquiry is to ensure transparency in drug procurement and distribution. Further action will be taken based on the committee’s findings, he added.
Officials said statements of departmental staff have been recorded, while documents related to beneficiaries of government schemes, including the Asadhya Yojana, are also under review. Investigators are scrutinising records of medicines supplied to patients, their utilisation and corresponding payments.
