The accused, identified as Nahar Singh, in-charge secretary of the Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti, Khurja Nagar, was caught red-handed by the ACO’s Meerut unit during a trap operation at his office in the Naveen Mandi Sthal area of Khurja Nagar on June 24.

According to the ACO, the action was taken on a complaint lodged by Atul Gupta, a resident of Khurja Nagar in Bulandshahr. Gupta alleged that the official had demanded illegal gratification in exchange for withdrawing a notice issued for the suspension of his firm’s licence and for allowing the business to continue functioning smoothly.

Acting on the complaint, a trap team led by inspector Yogendra Kumar verified the allegations and laid a trap. The team arrested Singh while he was allegedly receiving the bribe amount at his office.
