LUCKNOW A massive fire broke out at Lucknow Development Authority’s Smriti Apartments at Kursi road on Friday afternoon. The blaze struck flat number 707 of the 18-storey D Block building when the owner, Ashok Singh, had gone out with his family around 2pm. Household items were gutted but no casualties were reported, said officials.
“The fire seems to have been caused by a short circuit. However, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained,” said fire department officials and residents.
“The police and fire tenders were informed as soon as the fire broke out. But the fire was almost doused by residents before fire officials reached the spot,” Vivek Sharma, a resident of the nearby complex - Srishti Apartments. “There were no casualties,” he added.
INACTIVE FIRE SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Residents said the building did not have any fire NoC and several letters to LDA officials in this regard had gone unnoticed.
“Safety equipment has been installed, but none of them are active. Due to this, residents had to bring water in buckets from adjacent flats to douse the flames,” said Sharma.
“The building does not have any fire NoC and this has been confirmed by the fire department. The LDA and its executive engineers have been sent notices but they have never come up with any proposal,” said Vikas Singh, secretary, Residents Association of the building.
