Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday met a delegation of students who demonstrated at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Friday regarding ‘reservation reform’ and assured them to facilitate their meeting with a Union minister.
Addressing a press conference alongside representatives of the protestors here, Pathak said, “I fully assured the students that their demands would be taken to the central leadership within the next two days, and that a meeting with the relevant Union minister would also be arranged.”
Pathak said efforts would be made through a dialogue and positive initiatives to address the students’ problems and their justified demands. “Demands of the students’ delegation were heard and they were assured of appropriate resolution. The government stands with the youth of the country and the state under all circumstances,” he added.
Protestors claimed that they held a peaceful protest. They gave a letter to Pathak stating, “We believe that in the current education system, some students are at the top of the merit list, while others are significantly lower, even though the level of education is supposedly equal. The main issue of our movement is to ensure equal intellectual development in all students, providing them with equal opportunities in advanced professional courses.
“To this end, the number of opportunities should be increased and new opportunities should be created. This will ensure that no student is discriminated against and the entire society benefits,” the letter said. “Once the meeting is done, I will share with media the developments,” Pathak said.
