Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust has decided that carving of Ram Lalla’s idol will start at its workshop Ramsewakpuram in Ayodhya from next month with a deadline to complete it by November. According to Dr Anil Mishra, a member of the Trust, sculptors have started cutting rocks for the idol. The 52-inch idol will be placed on a pedestal giving it a total height of eight feet.
“The idol will depict five-year old Ram Lalla. It will also carry a bow and an arrow,” said a member of the Trust. Nellikaru rocks (black stones) from Karnataka will be used for carving out Ram Lalla’s idol. According to the Trust, most of the idols of Gods and Goddesses in temples across South India have been carved from Nellikaru rocks. They are also referred to as ‘Krishna Shilas’ due to resemblance of their colour with that of Lord Krishna.
Ram Lalla’s idol will be based on the sketch of internationally-acclaimed artist Vasudeo Kamath. The Trust has roped in renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj of Mysore to carve out Ram Lalla’s idol.
