Police arrested four men on Friday for robbing a Jan Seva Kendra operator of ₹4.18 lakh in Gosainganj. The accused, who allegedly went on a spending spree in Varanasi, were tracked down after one suspect posted social media videos featuring an iPhone purchased with the stolen cash.
The incident occurred on August 6 while victim Rahul Kumar was riding home. Two men on a motorcycle intercepted him, struck him with a wooden stick and fled with his bag containing ₹4,18,330. Investigations revealed the robbery was pre-planned; Shubham Rawat, who knew Kumar routinely carried cash, allegedly coordinated with accomplices Arun Kumar, Shiva and Chanchal Yadav to execute the heist.

Accused allegedly spent stolen money in Varanasi
After the robbery, the quartet travelled to Varanasi, staying in hotels and indulging in luxury purchases. Shiva reportedly bought an iPhone, documenting his spending on Instagram, which provided crucial digital evidence for investigators.

Police recovered ₹1.50 lakh in cash, the iPhone and the motorcycle used in the crime. The accused, Arun, Shiva, Chanchal and Shubham, have been sent to judicial custody.
Authorities are currently investigating whether family members knowingly received stolen funds and are working to identify additional accomplices.
