U.P.: Prayagraj man killed by wife’s paramour; accused beaten to death

A man was strangled to death allegedly by his wife’s paramour at Dhari village under Karchhana police station in trans-Yamuna area of the district late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

Enraged kin of the deceased and villagers caught the accused man and thrashed him badly. The injured man was taken to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, they said. The accused woman had been detained and was being questioned further, the police added.
According to reports, one Rambabu Bhartiya, 40, was in an illicit relationship with a woman of Dhari village. Late on Sunday night, Rambabu went to meet the woman where they were spotted by woman’s husband Santosh Kumar, 40, in a compromising position.
During the ensuing argument, Rambabu assaulted Santosh and strangled him to death. Rambabu then tried to flee but Santosh’s brothers and neighbours caught him. Rambabu was assaulted and thrashed by them which resulted in serious injuries to him.
Karchhana police reached the site on receiving information on Monday morning and rushed Rambabu to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Prayagraj, Ajay Kumar said primary investigation suggested that Rambabu killed Santosh after he spotted him with his wife. In retaliation, Santosh’s kin attacked Rambabu which resulted in his death, he added.
The SSP said initial investigation revealed that Santosh and Rambabu both worked as daily wage labourers and were friends. Rambabu often used to stay with Santosh at his house during which he developed illicit relations with his wife. Santosh’s wife was being questioned further and an FIR was being lodged in this connection. Both the bodies had been sent for a post-mortem examination, he added.
