NAVI MUMBAI: Vashi police arrested a 42-year-old man on Monday morning for allegedly murdering his 65-year-old mother following a domestic dispute at their Juhugaon residence on Sunday.

The victim’s son-in-law, Mangeh Kashiram Devlekar, 46, filed a complaint at the Vashi police station, which states that the accused, Mahesh Ratnakar Kadam, strangled his mother, Nanda Ratnakar Kadam, with a cloth and repeatedly banged her head against the floor between 6pm and 9:50pm at their residence in Ashtavinayak Society in Sector 11, causing fatal injuries.
After the act, Kadam reportedly started crying loudly, drawing the attention of the neighbours, who then called the police. Police registered a murder case under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint at 3:34am on Monday and arrested Kadam at 4:50am.
Shashikant Chandekar, senior inspector at Vashi Police Station, said that Kadam worked in housekeeping at a private firm. “He was reportedly angry with his mother because he believed she was preventing his wife from living with him. The wife and their children live in Ambernath.”
