Mumbai Police busted a milk adulteration racket during a raid on a Kandivali East residence, where a 48-year-old man was allegedly caught adulterating milk sold under Amul and Gokul labels, police said. The accused was arrested.

The Mumbai Police informed about the adulteration racket bust in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
"The Detection Squad of @SamtaNagarPS raided a residence in Kandivali East and caught a 48-year-old man red-handed while adulterating branded milk with impure water for sale," the post read.

During the operation, police seized:
- 74 litres of adulterated milk bearing Amul and Gokul labels
- Adulteration material
- Counterfeit empty pouches
A case has been registered under the BNS and the Food Safety and Standards Act, as per the police.

Milk adulteration racket busted
In a separate case, the Mumbai police crime branch busted a milk adulteration racket.
The police arrested four people, including the main accused, who allegedly printed logos of Amul and Gokul on empty pouches and sold these to distributors for ₹2.5 each, according to an earlier HT report. As per the police, the distributors would then fill the pouches with adulterated milk and sell these to customers.
Maharashtra bans analogue cheese
Earlier, Maharashtra imposed a ban on the manufacture, sale, storage, transportation and distribution of analogue (artificial or non-dairy) cheese, according to an ANI report.
The report stated that, as per the order issued on July 30 by Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the manufacture, packaging, processing, storage, transportation, and sale of analogue or non-dairy cheese in the state have been prohibited with immediate effect.
