Air quality dips with cooler weather in Mumbai

Mumbai's nighttime temperatures hit 19°C, 2.9°C below normal, with air quality in 'moderate' range for four days as pollution levels rise.

MUMBAI: With the onset of winter, nighttime temperatures were at their lowest this month so far, with Santacruz observatory recording 19°C on Monday, a departure of 2.9°C from the normal levels. According to the weather bureau, the minimum temperature for the next 24 hours in Mumbai is expected to range between 19°C and 22°C, while daytime temperatures are forecasted to remain between 31°C and 33°C.

Meanwhile, the Colaba coastal observatory registered a minimum of 22°C, dropping 2.1°C below normal. Similar to the recordings on Sunday, when the station logged 22.4 °C.

The daytime temperature at the Santacruz observatory was 32.6°C, with a departure of 1.8°C below average, while the maximum temperature at Colaba station was 32°C, which was 2°C below the normal level.

The temperature dip prompted an increase in air pollution. The air quality index (AQI) remained in the ‘moderate’ category for the fourth consecutive day. The pollution control board recorded 110 on Monday, 109 on Sunday, and 157 on Saturday.
