Mumbai: Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, who had sought permission from the legislative council chairman and the deputy speaker to allow him to sit and respond during the proceedings of the house, has received their nod. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on March 7 had written seeking the permission as the CM is recovering from spine surgery. Thackeray had undergone surgery in November last year and has been recovering gradually.

The letter was written by CMO’s deputy secretary Nagnath Thite. The deputy speaker’s Office confirmed the letter had been received and permission was granted. Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, chairman of the legislative council, said that his office may have received the letter. “If such a letter has come, I would allow it. There have been instances in the past where special treatment has been given due to health reasons,” he told HT.

The CM would be able to sit and participate in debates, discussions, question hour by remaining seated. As per the rules, no member of either house is allowed to sit and speak; if done so, it does not go on record. The CM is expected to attend the state budget 2022-23 presentation on Friday, March 11, and subsequently in the next week when discussion on the state budget would happen in both the Houses of the legislature.
