Supplier asks for pending payment from Mumbai factory owner, loses his finger

A factory owner in Vasai allegedly bit off part of a supplier's finger over ₹77k in unpaid dues. Supplier's father was assaulted when he intervened.

A 45-year-old factory owner in Vasai allegedly bit off part of the index finger of a 28-year-old chemical supplier after the latter demanded payment of ₹77,000 in pending dues. The supplier’s father was also allegedly assaulted with an iron rod while trying to intervene. Both were admitted to the hospital.

According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Mahesh Electroplaters, part of Vimal Industries, in Naikpada, Waliv.

In his complaint, the victim, Shivkant Tiwari said he had been supplying chemicals to the factory, owned by Mahesh Chaurasia, for the past few months but had frequently faced delays in receiving payments. In June, he supplied chemicals worth ₹1 lakh and received only part of the amount.

After waiting for nearly a month, Tiwari visited the factory to collect the outstanding ₹77,000. He alleged that Chaurasia began abusing him as soon as he asked for the payment. When he objected, the factory owner allegedly assaulted him.

“As I tried to stop him, Chaurasia pounced on me and bit my right index finger so hard that a part of it was severed. When my father came to my rescue, he attacked him with an iron rod,” Tiwari said.“I had only asked for what was rightfully mine.”

The injured father and son were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Tiwari underwent treatment for his finger injury.

Police reached the spot after being informed and registered an FIR based on Tiwari’s complaint.

An offence has been registered against Chaurasia, who is absconding.
