Mumbai: Two men have been booked for allegedly posing as qualified doctors and fraudulently providing medical services through their unauthorised clinics in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Rajeev Ranjan, 34, and Kubernath Yadav, 56, were operating clinics without possessing recognised medical degrees or registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council.

The action was jointly carried out by the Mumbai Crime Branch Police and officials from the BMC’s M East ward (Govandi) following a tip-off about illegal medical practice in the area. A raid on the clinics revealed that the duo was fraudulently providing medical services. One had studied up to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and the other up to Secondary School Certificate (SSC), with one of them holding a naturopathy qualification, said a police officer.

Police said the two had previously worked under licensed doctors and began treating patients independently based on experience, despite lacking formal qualifications.

“They were administering injections and prescribing antibiotics and other medicines without any authorisation, putting patients’ lives at risk,” the officer said.

The accused have been booked under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. The police have sealed their clinics and issued notices to both under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
