MUMBAI: A 30-year-old civic veterinary officer died after a tempo rammed his scooter on the Gandhi Nagar junction bridge in Vikhroli on Saturday afternoon. The victim, Niwas Yadav, was on his way from Powai to the Deonar abattoir for his shift when the accident took place.

According to the complaint filed by his father, Taggwelu Yadav, 65, Niwas had left home for his afternoon shift when the family received a call from Parksite police station informing them about the accident.

The tempo driver, Govind Giri, 45, a resident of Palghar, has been detained, police said. Police have registered a case against him under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Section 184 (dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
