A 40-year-old man suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at a garment factory in Sector 8, Noida on Wednesday. The fire station in Phase-1, Noida received information about the incident at 12.22pm, according to Pradeep K Chaubey, chief fire officer of Gautam Budh Nagar.

The fire started in a three-by-four-foot tin shed built on the factory’s terrace to store scrap fabric. Because the fabric scraps kept nearby were of flammable material, the pile caught fire immediately. (Sunil Ghosh/HT Photo)

“We immediately dispatched two fire tenders to the scene. We discovered the fire started in a three-by-four-foot tin shed built on the factory’s terrace to store scrap fabric. Within 15 minutes, we extinguished the fire,” said the CFO.

He added that at least 40 factory workers were working on the ground floor at the time of the incident, but the fire had not reached them.

“A factory worker on the terrace at the time, Arjun (40), a resident of Sector 5, Noida, attempted to extinguish the fire and received minor burns. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and discharged,” the officer said.

He added that a short circuit caused the fire in an air cooler on the terrace. “A short circuit occurred in the motor pump of the cooler that was running in the tin shed on the terrace, resulting in a fire. Because the fabric scraps kept nearby were of flammable material, the pile caught fire immediately,” said the officer.
