AI hub to come up in Yamuna city by 2030; Yeida signs MoU

GREATER NOIDA: The Hyderabad-based AM Green Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Invest UP to set up a 1 gigawatt high-performance computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in the Yamuna City region of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), the authority said on Thursday.

The Group has decided to make an investment of around ₹2.2 lakh crore ( ₹2.2 trillion) in the project that comprises AI Lab, Data Centre and other related facilities near Noida International airport that is likely to become operational soon, said officials.

“The project, to come up on 289 acres in sectors 28 and 8D, will be developed in phases, with operations targeted by 2028 and full capacity by 2030. Powered entirely by round-the-clock carbon-free energy, the facility is expected to host around 500,000 advanced chipsets,” Yeida’s chief executive officer RK Singh told HT.

“The investment of around ₹2.2 lakh crore may help the Uttar Pradesh state to emerge as a leading artificial intelligence and data infrastructure destination in the country. This will be the biggest investment in Data Centre and AI project in the country,” said an official of the company during the meeting held on Thursday with Yeida officials.

The location is strategically significant due to its connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport and other industrial and logistics infrastructure in the region, said same officials.

“The facility will be designed as a large-scale, scalable AI compute hub capable of serving global hyperscalers, research institutions, enterprises and sovereign AI initiatives in India. With a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt, the data centre infrastructure will support advanced artificial intelligence workloads and high-performance computing requirements across sectors,” said Yeida’s additional CEO Shailendra Bhatia.

A key feature of the project is its commitment to sustainability. The hub will run entirely on 24x7 carbon-free energy, sourced from a mix of renewable energy including solar, wind and pumped storage solutions, said officials.

This aligns with AM Green Group’s broader focus on energy transition and green industrial infrastructure, said officials.

The project is expected to generate thousands of high-skilled jobs and draw significant foreign direct investment (FDI) into the region. It is also likely to create a wider ecosystem involving hardware manufacturing, software development, cooling technologies and other allied services, said officials.

The facility will also provide Indian developers and enterprises access to cutting-edge chipsets and computing infrastructure, helping accelerate AI research and application development domestically, they said.

The large-scale deployment of around 500,000 high-performance chipsets is expected to significantly boost computing capacity available within the country, said Yeida officials.

AM Green Group, backed by the founders of Greenko Group, focuses on energy transition, decarbonisation and advanced technology platforms. The group has been working on large-scale renewable energy and storage solutions, and the AI hub project marks its expansion into digital and computing infrastructure, said Yeida in a statement.
