NOIDA: The Noida authority said on Thursday that it will develop a “Centre of Excellence” at the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida for students to conduct research on semiconductor or stem cell.

“We have decided to set up a Centre of Excellence in GBU, and this will be discussed and finalised in the board meeting next week. The aim of this facility will be to impart quality education,” said Krishna Karunesh, chief executive officer of the Noida authority,told HT.
According to officials, the project will further encourage the research ecosystem at the university and help position Noida as a hub for high-end scientific development.
Notably, semiconductors are used to manufacture components like transistors and integrated circuits (microchips), which power smartphones, computers, and televisions. They are also widely used in communication systems, automobiles, and industrial machines. Meanwhile, the stem cells are widely used in medicine for treating diseases like Leukemia through bone marrow transplants.
While the university will manage the project, the Noida authority will fund it, said officials, adding that the GBU is being funded by the Noida authority since its inception in 2002.

{{/usCountry}}Officials said that the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) is also developing semiconductor parks in Sector 10 and 28. Strategically located near the Noida International Airport, the park is designed to draw global and domestic semiconductor companies by offering world-class infrastructure, said officials.
Meanwhile, the Noida authority has also planned to launch a mix land use property scheme. However, the total number of plots, sizes and rates will be finalised in the next week’s board meeting.
The Noida authority during its board meeting last year had increased plot allotment rates by 6% in all categories including residential, commercial, industry and institutional, and approved ₹8,732 crore budget.
Officials said this year as well the authority plans to increase the land rate and the budget as compared to last year.
