The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has decided to propose a 500-acre “regional medical hub” in sectors 13 and 14 near the Noida International Airport, as Uttar Pradesh seeks to secure one of the five hubs proposed by the Centre in this year’s Union Budget.

The proposed hub will include super-specialty medical care, a medical college, medical education and research centres, an AYUSH centre, a medical tourism facilitation centre and state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratories. (HT Archive)

“We have decided to develop a regional medical hub to fuel growth in the region, generate jobs and make world-class medical facilities accessible to the public. Land in sectors 13 and 14 has been selected for the regional medical hub. The state government has asked us for a proposal and we are in the process of preparing one. It will soon be sent to the government,” Yeida chief executive officer RK Singh told reporters on Monday.

The proposed hub will include super-specialty medical care, a medical college, medical education and research centres, an AYUSH centre, a medical tourism facilitation centre and state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratories, officials said.

In the Union Budget, the Centre proposed a scheme to support states in establishing five regional medical hubs across the country in partnership with the private sector. The hubs are envisaged as integrated healthcare complexes combining medical, educational and research facilities, along with AYUSH centres, medical-value-tourism facilitation centres and diagnostic, post-care and rehabilitation infrastructure.

“We made a request to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister that a regional medical hub is a necessity for this region because Jewar will cater to people from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan once world-class medical facilities are developed. We are grateful that the CM accepted our request and directed Yeida to identify land for the hub. We are also thankful to the Centre for approving the construction of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences near the airport. This AIIMS will not only help share the patient load of Delhi AIIMS but also provide easy and timely medical care to the public,” Singh said.

Yeida said the land in sectors 13 and 14 is designated for institutional use. Its project and planning department has started preparing the proposal, which will be sent to the Uttar Pradesh government.

The state government will then submit the proposal to the Centre, seeking inclusion of Yamuna City in the regional medical hub scheme, officials said.

The proposed hub is expected to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure around the airport and could also support medical tourism, officials said.
