Updation of electoral rolls in Bihar from July 21: Election body officials

The verification of voters through house-to-house visit by BLOs will be done to physically verify the voters, check the number of voters in any household

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has begun preparations for updating the electoral rolls in Bihar with house-to-house verification of voters by booth level officers (BLOs) set to begin from July 21 and conclude on August 21, election officials said.

“The verification of voters through house-to-house visit by BLOs will be done to physically verify the voters, check the number of voters in any household and ascertain whether any voter has shifted out or has died. If any household has new eligible voters, their names will be added and formalities will be done,” said chief electoral officer (CEO), Bihar HR Srinivasa.

In the next phase, rationalisation/re-arrangements of polling stations, removal of discrepancies in electoral rolls, improvement of image quality will be done from August 22 to September 29, as per schedule, officials said.

“The draft publication of the updated electoral rolls will be done October 17 and period of filing claims and objections will be done from October 17 to November 30,” said a state election department, in know of the schedule.

The final publication of the updated voters list will be done on January 5, 2024.

As of January 27,2023, there is total 7.58 crore electors of which 3.97 are male voters and 3.60 crore are female voters while 2,418 are from the third gender.

The gender ratio in the state’s electoral roll stands at 905. There are a total of 77,221 polling stations in the state.
