Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Tuesday demanded from CM Samrat Choudhary to ensure that teachers of Urdu, Arabic and Persian language in government schools were not transferred in an arbitrary manner and proper norms be followed for postings of the teachers.

In his letter to the CM, the Opposition leader has highlighted that complaints were being received that teachers of various subjects and languages mainly Urdu, Arabic and Persian were being put on the transfer list by categorising them as surplus in many schools against the laid down standard criteria.

“There have been complaints about that single Urdu, Persian language teachers deployed in schools being categorised as surplus despite adequate number of students and being transferred. There have also been complaints that many of the teachers have been put in the transfer list who were recently transferred from other schools or have not completed five year period. This cannot be just an administrative discrepancy but has raised a question mark on the impartiality and transparency of transfer policy,” Yadav said.

Anwarul Hoda, associated with a body working for Urdu language, said the problem of Urdu teachers had become more acute in middle schools as the government was following a norm to have one Urdu or Sanskrit teacher in such schools where the strength of students is around 120 or a bit more. Under the standard norms earlier, there were posting of separate Urdu and Sanskrit teachers in schools as per the student strength varying from 140 plus and 245 plus.

“ But, of late, the government has made a change by choosing to have either one teacher of Urdu or Sanskrit in such schools where student strength is around 120. That way, the subject teacher of other language will become a surplus. This is the problem,” Hoda claimed.

Education secretary Rajiv Raushan and director, secondary, education department Sajjan Rajasekar could not be reached for comments despite repeated efforts.
