The Crime Branch Unit 7 of Pune Police has seized 72kg of ganja worth ₹19.93 lakh and arrested four persons involved in drug trafficking on March 13, police said on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Bhiva Waghmode, 36; Vishnu Waghmode, 28; Hari Dhawale, 32; and Manoj Surwase 29 from Karmala in Solapur district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a car near Bolhaimata Temple on the Kesnand–Wagholi Road, and recovered 58.58 kg of ganja packed in 29 plastic bags from the vehicle. The vehicle was also seized.
The arrested accused confessed that the contraband was brought to Pune for sale.
Based on their statements, police raided the house of one of their accused in Solapur and recovered 14 kg of ganja worth ₹2.93 lakh on Thursday.
Lonikand Police Station has filed a case under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), 1985.
